Microsoft exceeds expectations and earns $ 5.2 billion in three months
The Microsoft today published the results of its second quarter of fiscal 2017 (the company does not follow the correct quarters of the year) and surprised its shareholders. The company posted gross revenue of $ 24.1 billion and net income of $ 5.2 billion in three months, which exceeded the expectations of the stock market on Wall Street.
Most of this result, however, comes from Microsoft's cloud computing business, Azure , which brought almost double revenue in the same period last year. The increase was 93%. On the other hand, the purchase of LinkedIn has had a negative impact on the company's accounts, with a loss of $ 100 million. This transaction is expected to have some effect on next quarter's accounts.
Software and services "are good"
Virtually every major business related to Microsoft software and services went well during this period. The licensing Windows brought 5% more revenue compared to the previous year, which was good news after virtually zero growth in the first quarter of fiscal 2017. The Office also increased by 5% in revenue, and recorded about 25 million Subscribers in the Office 365 program globally.
Xbox Live gave some hope for the division of games
In the games segment, Microsoft lost money due to the low sales of consoles Xbox . The fall in the industry was 3%, but Xbox Live gave a little hope for this division for the accumulated of the year. The network now has 55 million subscribers as against 47 million in the first quarter.
In the Hardware division, Products Surface brought $ 1.3 billion in revenue, but that mark is 2% lower than that recorded last year in the same period. Despite this drop is small, what worries is the business smartphones, and the line Lumia shrank 81% in revenue. Since Microsoft has not given enough attention to this industry, this number is not really surprising.
The company's CEO, Satya Nadella, is expected to hold a meeting with shareholders today to comment on some points. If new information arises, you will know about it here at TecMundo.
